USA/Canada 2014 MathCamp!

What is Mathcamp?

Canada/USA Mathcamp is an intensive 5-week-long summer program for mathematically talented high school students, designed to expose these students to the beauty of advanced mathematical ideas and to new ways of thinking. More than just a summer camp, Mathcamp is a vibrant community, made up of a wide variety of people who share a common love of learning and passion for mathematics. At Mathcamp, students can explore undergraduate and even graduate-level topics while building problem-solving skills that will help them in any field they choose to study.

This Week's I-Math Exercise

What is the I-Math Program?  The I-Math Program is a collection of nineteen different mathematical problem-solving activities. Each title, which contains from one to eight pages, starts with simple questions that serve to establish your basic level of understanding of a concept that will be covered in that particular series. The questions then slowly become more complex as variations to the problem are introduced.

SOLVING WORD PROBLEMS: What are they saying?

The hardest thing about word problems is taking the English words and translating them to Mathematics.  The actual math is fairly simple but figuring out the equation can seem impossible if you don't understand what it is saying to you.  It takes practice, practice, practice.  Here is a video that can provide you with an easy system of solving word problems.
